Digital Product Passport
According to the European Commission:
… a Digital Product Passport (DPP) gathers data on a product and its value chain. The objective of the DPP is to support sustainable production, to enable the transition to circular economy, to provide new business opportunities to economic actors, to support consumers in making sustainable choices and to allow authorities to verify compliance with legal obligations.
which is part of The Sustainable Products Initiative foreseen in the new Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP).
Examples
In the interfacer projects we have two cases of DPPs, which have different focuses but follow the same mechanisms under the hood.
- Design Passport: captures the specifications for a product that is yet to be manufactured
- Material Passport: holds information about all inputs tht were used for manufacturing a physical good, including design and materials.
